Rethinking Homeostasis: Allostatic Regulation in Physiology and Pathophysiology by Jay Schulkin,
Homeostasis, a key concept in biology, refers to the tendency toward stability in the various bodily states that make up the internal environment. Examples include temperature regulation maintain homeostasis and oxygen consumption. The body's needs, however, do not remain constant. When an organism is under stress, the central nervous system works with the endocrine system to use resources to maintain the overall viability of the organism. The process accelerates the various systems' defenses of bodily viability, but can violate short-term homeostasis. This allostatic regulation highlights our ability to anticipate, adapt to, maintain homeostasis and cope with impending future events. In "Rethinking Homeostasis, Jay Schulkin defines maintain homeostasis and explores many aspects of allostasis, including the wear maintain homeostasis and tear on tissues maintain homeostasis and accelerated pathophysiology caused by allostatic overload. Focusing on the concept of motivation maintain homeostasis and its relationship to the central nervous system function maintain homeostasis and specific hormonal systems, he applies a neuroendocrine perspective to central motive states such as cravings for water, sodium, food, sex, maintain homeostasis and drugs. He examines in detail the bodily consequences of the behavioral maintain homeostasis and neuroendocrine regulation of fear maintain homeostasis and adversity, the endocrine regulation of normal maintain homeostasis and preterm birth, maintain homeostasis and the effects of drug addiction on the body. Schulkin's presentation of allostasis lays the foundation for further study.

Language and Human Behavior by D. Bickerton,

Language and Human Behavior by D. Bickerton,
According to Bickerton, the behavioral sciences have failed to give an adequate account of human nature at least partly because of the conjunction maintain homeostasis and mutual reinforcement of two widespread beliefs: that language is simply a means of communication maintain homeostasis and that human intelligence is the result of the rapid growth maintain homeostasis and unusual size of human brains. Bickerton argues that each of the properties distinguishing human intelligence maintain homeostasis and consciousness from that of other animals can be shown to derive straightforwardly from properties of language. In essence, language arose as a representational system, not a means of communication or a skill, maintain homeostasis and not a product of culture but an evolutionary adaptation. The author stresses the necessity of viewing intelligence in evolutionary terms, seeing it not as problem solving but as a way of maintaining homeostasis - the preservation of those conditions most favorable to an organism, the optimal achievable conditions for survival maintain homeostasis and well-being. The term protolanguage is used to describe the stringing together of symbols that prehuman hominids employed. "It did not allow them to turn today's imagination into tomorrow's fact. But it is just this power to transform imagination into fact that distinguishes human behavior from that of our ancestral species, maintain homeostasis and indeed from that of all other species. It is exactly what enables us to change our behavior, or invent vast ranges of new behavior, practically overnight, with no concomitant genetic changes". Language maintain homeostasis and Human Behavior should be of interest to anyone in the behavioral maintain homeostasis and evolutionary sciences maintain homeostasis and to all those concerned with the role of language in human behavior.

Homeostasis - Homeostasis is the property of an open system, especially living organisms, to regulate its internal environment to maintain a stable, constant condition, by means of multiple dynamic equilibrium adjustments, controlled by interrelated regulation mechanisms. The term was coined in 1932 by Walter Cannon from the Greek homo (same, like) and stasis (to stand, posture).

Protobiont - A protobiont is an aggregate of abiotically produced organic molecules. They are unlikely to be able to maintain homeostasis but should be able to maintain an internal chemical environment.

Regulatory T cell - Regulatory T cells (also known as suppressor T cells) are a specialized subpopulation of T cells that act to suppress activation of the immune system and thereby maintain immune system homeostasis and tolerance to self. The existence of a dedicated population of “suppressor” T cells was the subject of significant controversy among immunologists for many years.

Negative feedback - ... the process of feeding back to the input a part of a system's output, so as to reverse the direction of change of the output. This tends to keep the output from changing, so it is stabilizing and attempts to maintain homeostasis.
